On August 28th, 2024, the Sustainable Infrastructure Modeling (SIM) Group, led by Prof. Albert Thomas from IIT Bombay, hosted the International Workshop on "Decarbonization of Built Environment: Advancements through Digital and Simulation Tools." The workshop brought together global experts to discuss the latest innovations in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), digital construction management, and sustainability. Highlights included Dr. Anastasia Globa's presentation on AR/VR applications in architecture, Dr. Olubukola Tokede's insights on the role of LCA in decarbonization, and Dr. Albert Thomas' strategies for achieving net zero emissions. The event also featured hands-on training in LCA software tools, led by Dr. Ann Francis and team, enhancing participants' skills in applying sustainability assessments.
The workshop concluded with a poster presentation session, awards, and a closing ceremony, where Dr. Thomas emphasized ongoing collaboration in the field of sustainable development. The international faculty also engaged with the SIM research group, CTaM faculty, and first-year civil engineering students, sharing insights and discussing potential areas for collaboration and improvement in ongoing projects and educational methodologies.
Online refresher cum orientation programme was conducted during May, June and July 2021 for training more than 100 Rural Housing Engineers with the support of State Management Unit Rural Housing, Maharashtra. This programme (5 days online) was designed to give exposure to Basic Civil Engineering and Architectural aspects. 11 IIT Bombay faculty members from 5 academic units and 5 experts from other institutions/organizations delivered the lectures.

IIT Bombay with help of the Construction Technology & Management Division conducted a workshop on Building Information Modelling (BIM) which is an emerging paradigm in the way the life cycle of construction projects is managed.
This course covered the fundamental concepts and philosophies underlying the development of BIM. It gave an hands-on experience of the tools and techniques used in BIM. It also dealt with the different challenges in adopting BIM in construction organizations and how to overcome them.
